I knew you had included PID capability, but I never did calculus at school, so I've managed to avoid looking into the PID capability.
But I now need to try to do an Annex version of the arduino accelstepper library if I can, and the Annex32 Doc PID description explained the implementation so well that it took a while before I even noticed that the example script was missing. And the diagram needs updating for ESP32, btw.

probably the PID has never been used and the demo program from the ESP8266 cannot be used directly as the PWM works differently on the ESP32 so this means that tt must be converted
