I am currently experimenting with a very interesting open source Mini-Radio Si4732 ATS-MINI.
This project is based on a ESP32-S3, ST7789 display , an SDR-radio chip SI4732, an audio amp + loudspeaker + rotary encoder + LiPo-Bat + USB-C + 3D-printed housing + SMA whip antenna .
The Hardware costs about 29€ and even if not used as a MINI-Rx it could be an interesting base for other projects!!
Original Github project: https://github.com/G8PTN/ATS_MINI
Lib for Si4732 at https://github.com/pu2clr/SI4735
The original purpose is a fantastic receiver for the 0.3 to 30MHz shortwave bands + FM-stereo . Shortwave even allows SSB. Some available firmware versions even decode Morse, RTTY, FT8 !!
My dream would be to be able to interface the SI4732 with annex, the rest at the display seems not very hard to achieve.
But again, this especially could be a good hardware for other projects.

Peter,
Nice project, but as usual, you’ll probably ride solo and I’ll end up being the workhorse.

That was really not ment to be a task, Francesco.[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Fri May 09, 2025 5:38 pm Peter,

The RX is very specific and there are a lot of Ham-radio experts trying to implement very unusual modulation modes. A very dynamic matter. H.J.Berndt is active in this too: http://www.hjberndt.de/dvb/pocketSI4735 ... coder.html
But the Hardware is just nice!

Yes, it looks a nice project with someone already working on.[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Fri May 09, 2025 6:00 pmThat was really not ment to be a task, Francesco.[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Fri May 09, 2025 5:38 pm Peter,

Probably a domain reserved to Ham radio specialists.
I'm very skeptical about the possibility that anyone else here could be interested.
This is a niche within a niche.
P.S. : if you are looking for unusual modulations, here you can find a lot of white noise.

Don’t worry, if you listen closely, you might hear the secret message hidden in the static.[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Fri May 09, 2025 6:18 pm …

There is strength in tranquility! And modern physics science even says : „There is a lot of energy arising from quantum noise“[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Fri May 09, 2025 6:35 pm

Hi Chris,[Local Link Removed for Guests] wrote: [Local Link Removed for Guests]Sat May 10, 2025 9:11 am Tempting me to get back into HAM![]()
there is a hardware version 2 now that has some improvements. Especially a high-Z shortwave input, to make the antenna work like a capacitive probe. Very effective!!
V1 needs an additional hight voltage protection via antiparallel diodes at the input - as I know now from experience

Hi guys,
I have been watching your banter for a while now and these devices are certainly available but I thought that were like the other radios that appear online but were rubbish but it appears from what you say and what I read that this is a serious contender. I am also a ham radio operator and this sort of project interests me with its link to the ESP32 S3.
There are many versions of this radio on the net - some have a aluminium metal case with a silk screened fascia - some are made inside a 3d printed case and some are version 2 with a hi-z input and some come with a loop antenna and others with a extending antennae I prefer the metal case but is there one that you can recommend? I have seen them on Amazon and on Alibaba as an ATS-20.
