ESP32-Cam with attachment feature

Post by mynewesp36 »

Hello Francesco,
as a newbie, I've learnt a lot about Annex in the last few weeks. With the very patient and efficient help of PeterN, I was able to correct some of my initial mistakes when setting up the ESP modules. I now have three ESP32 modules up and running with Annex-Basic and with the last firmware update to 2.0.0.7, I was able to send a great number of mails with the new feature allowing attachments/pictures.

Coming from the AVR/Atmega family under BasCom, I was impressed about the huge increase of the new possibilities with Annex and it has really enriched my hobby and made it even more enjoyable.

I would greatly appreciate it, if there was a way to send a photo as an email attachment directly from the ESP32-camera or its SD card, because I don't want to use Telegram for this like PeterN has managed to do.

Do you think it would be possible to integrate such an email attachment function into the ESPCam? That would be a major benefit as well as a characteristic feature and would make things much easier, perhaps not only for me.

Thank you very much for your support and for Annex.

I like the telegram feature with EspCam, but I admit that email attachment instead of telegram or ftp could make it much easier to propagate a photo as a reaction to an event.

Could you please introduce your project with the camera and Telegram as a project? These are incentives for newcomers.
Könnt ihr mal euer CAM Projekt mal unter Projekte veröffentlichen, ist für alle sicher ein Anreiz Annex kennen zu lernen oder für mehr input ins Hirn zu sorgen ;-)
Oder gibt es das schon?

Hi, thanks for your appreciation of Annex.
I hope Annex brings value to you, and I’d be curious to know what value you would assign to this feature.
Yes, this is something that could be implemented in the future, depending on the support received.

Hello Francesco,

of course I would like to transfer a corresponding amount to you for your great development work.
As I am generally not a friend of paypal and do not have it, I would like to know if it is possible to make another bank transfer, or is paypal the only option?

Don't care, this is not the real question, I would just know what is the value for you, how much worth this feature for you.

Hello Francesco,

my objective is quite simple. Nowadays, there are already a large number of cameras that either store their images on a SD-card or send these images to a cloud.

By this, the not useable limitation is, that these are all much closed systems where the user has no control over which of several sensors can trigger an image and when. That's what I do not accept.

And now here comes your great Annex-Basic into play for me and I have also familiarized myself with it, because I was hoping to be able to send emails with picture attachments to my personal area using that WLAN option. You have already realized this with ESP32 and it would be even more advantageous for the ESP32-Cam.

May be that others have a large garden or area too like me, would like to monitor it with various sensors and be able to document what happens there with pictures. At the moment there some wild boars on the way and flower thieves have been seen.

As an aside, I know that there are programs for emails with attachments for the ESP32-Cam, but these only run under C or Python or other language products. However, I never want to familiarize myself with these other language products.

I hope I have been able to bring you a little closer to my intentions. For that I would like to be able to send images by email with the ESP-Cam.

many greets

HI, and thanks for your donation.

I'll implement this feature in the next release of the ESP32-CAM.

I really appreciate that.
I'd like to use that feature to watch the LCD of my parent's central heating.
My parents are getting older, so I'd like to be able to watch it remotely, together with some temperature measurements, so I can intervene quickly, should something happen.
